Introduction

The Resource for Psychoses Genomics, Ireland (RPGI) is an initiative funded by the Wellcome Trust to establish an Irish resource consisting of clinical information and DNA from ~1000 subjects with a psychotic disorder (e.g. Schizophrenia (SZ), schizoaffective disorder and Bipolar Affective Disorder (BPD)). The RPGI is conceived as a self-sustaining resource for the research community, allowing investigation of genes contributing to these disorders, investigation of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions. Addressing these issues is important in improving our biological understanding of psychotic disorders, developing diagnostics and risk prediction, and in developing novel therapeutics.

The program is a coordinated by researchers at Trinity College Dublin and The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, in collaboration with researchers at the other Irish Medical Schools (University College Dublin, University College Cork and Queens University Belfast). Recruitment began in 2005 and is due for completion in June 2008. Further details will be available in due course.
